The relationship between Dr. Robby and Dr. Al-Hashimi is a tricky one. While they got off to a rocky start in Season 2, it seemed like they eventually gained mutual respect for one another over the course of Robby’s final pre-sabbatical shift—even as their approaches to medicine continued to clash. But after Baran revealed the truth about her seizure disorder to Robby, he warned her that he would tell the hospital higher-ups about her impairment unless she did so first. This all felt a bit “rules for thee but not for me,” considering that Robby has been suffering from extreme psychological distress that directly threatens his ability to function as a doctor and a leader upon whom many in the ER depend. The two senior attendings both need help, even if they’re not willing to admit it. Four months down the road, we’d wager there’s still going to be some lingering friction to address between them.
