The 33-year-old man who died after hiking the Superstition Mountains east of Mesa has been identified.
The Pinal County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Noah Farabaugh died May 11. He was part of a group of five hikers experiencing heat issues near the Wave Cave trailhead. The hikers said they had been on the trail for about six hours, the Superstition Fire and Medical District said.
Multiple rounds of CPR were conducted on Farabaugh when medical personnel arrived, but he did not survive, according to the fire department. The other hikers were not injured and refused to be taken to a hospital, but were assisted down the mountain with a UTV vehicle.
Officials discouraged people from returning to the area for the rest of the day.

The temperature readings were 10 to 15 degrees higher than average for this time of year, the weather service said, making it one of the hottest days of 2025 so far.
