June 1 was the official start of the Hurricane Season, and there are two potential tropical development risk zones in the Atlantic.
According to AccuWeather, the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season Forecast predicts 13 to 18 storms, including seven to 10 hurricanes. Three to five major expected hurricanes could reach Category 3 strength or higher on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
A Category 3 hurricane has sustained winds between 111 and 129 miles per hour.
Starting Wednesday into the second week of June, forecasters are monitoring two zones with a low risk of tropical development potential in the waters of the Atlantic basin and the Caribbean to the Gulf.
AccuWeather said there is a low potential for tropical development off the southeastern coast of the United States.
“We cannot rule out an area of low-pressure developing off the Carolina coast between Wednesday and Friday this week,” AccuWeather Lead Hurricane Expert Alex DaSilva said. “Right now, we forecast roughly a 10 percent chance for this to develop.”
Even if this does not develop into a tropical system, DaSilva said they expect downpours across Florida into the Carolinas, especially along the coast.
“There will also be rip current risks later in the week along those areas from the Carolinas down through parts of central and southern Florida,” DaSilva said.

AccuWeather hurricane experts also have identified a low-risk zone for tropical development potential in the western Caribbean and eastern Gulf from June 7-12. “The zone in the Caribbean and Gulf has a better chance of development starting this weekend into next week,” DaSilva said. “Several factors are more conducive for development, including warm sea surface temperatures and abundant moisture. We expect some wind shear in this area, which would inhibit tropical development.” Wind shear is the change in direction and speed of winds throughout the various levels of the atmosphere.
