Authorities say they continue to search for a murder suspect whose criminal record spans nearly four decades.
Fort Myers Police announced May 9 they are searching for David Thurman, 61, of Fort Myers, connected to the March 16 slaying of Vely Jean-Pierre, 67, of Cape Coral.

According to police, Thurman’s criminal history dates back to 1987 with 24 previous bookings in Lee County and seven stints in prison — which consumed nearly 18 years of his life.
Fort Myers Police announced Friday, May 9, 2025, they are searching for David Thurman, 61, of Fort Myers, connected to the March 16, 2025, slaying of Vely Jean-Pierre, 67, of Cape Coral.
His criminal past includes charges of assault on a law enforcement officer, the sale and delivery of cocaine, burglary, fraud and theft.
Police detectives and the U.S. Marshals Service believe Thurman is a transient in the area.
Authorities urge anyone with information on Thurman’s whereabouts to contact Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-8477, online at www.southwestfloridacrimestoppers.com or on the P3 Tips app. Tipsters who lead to his arrest are eligible for a cash reward of up to $3,000.
