Five Kentucky whiskeys have been named among the best in North America.
The International Wine & Spirits Competition hosted its North American Whiskey and Ready to Drink competition in Bardstown earlier this month. The event is often called the “Olympics of the Drink Industry,” and the IWSC is widely considered most prestigious of the spirit award competitions around the globe.
This year fewer than 4 percent of entrants received the top honor of “Gold Outstanding,” and five of those seven whiskeys are from Kentucky. This award means the brand has scored between 98-100 points and is described as “an outstanding spirit with a naturally exceptional balance, complexity and power. An example that immediately sets itself apart from others in the category.”
And the Kentucky “Gold Outstanding” winners are …
-
Bulleit Frontier Whiskey Barrel Strength Whiskey
-
Praedictum15-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey
-
Pinhook Vertical Series, 9-year-old Rye Whiskey
King’s Family Distillery’s 9-year-old Tennessee Standard Blended Bourbon Whiskey from Sieverville, Tennessee, and Triple Eight Distillery’s The Notch, a 12-year-old American Single Malt Whiskey from Nantucket, Massachusetts, also took home home the Gold Outstanding honor.
