What do they have? Pine River is second on readers’ list. The rural Manitowoc shop has offered hand-dipped scoops since 1978. Cones used to be 25 cents, until the cost doubled to a whopping 50 cents this year. Thousands also visit Pine River’s retail shop to buy locally made cheese, bacon and meats, butter, cookies, soups and souvenirs, and, of course, the hot-selling ice cream cones. An observation window allows visitors to watch the butter-making process. The store scoops ice cream cones throughout the year, except for the holiday period from Thanksgiving to after Christmas.
