Rain showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop June 17 in Louisville, while even stronger storms could arrive in the evening hours of June 18, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
Louisville is under a 70% chance of rain June 17, with up to 1/4 inch expected. Thunderstorms are more likely later in the day, according to a forecast from NWS Louisville. Even with the mostly cloudy skies, warm and muggy conditions will continue, with a high near 81.
Then on June 18, a cold front moving through the Midwest could bring with it large hail, damaging winds and possibly a few tornadoes. The Storm Prediction Center placed the Louisville metro area, as well as parts of northern and western Kentucky, under a slight risk for severe weather June 18, the second-highest of five levels.
Damaging winds could be the primary threat during this round of severe weather, NWS Louisville officials said, while heavy rainfall in some areas could lead to localized flooding issues.
“Confidence on timing of storms remains low, but expect evening to nighttime hours,” NWS Louisville officials stated June 17 about when the storms could arrive in Kentucky June 18.
After a chance for scattered showers June 19, sunny skies are anticipated June 20.
