A man is in custody and facing several charges after hitting several cars while driving the wrong way on eastbound Interstate 64 May 21.
Louisville Metro Police spokesperson Aaron Ellis said Fifth and First Division officers responded to eastbound I-64 near Mellwood Avenue on reports of a vehicle collision at around 10:15 p.m. When they arrived, officers located a collision involving several vehicles.
The preliminary investigation reveals that the driver, Jacob Collett, 28, entered the interstate traveling the wrong direction at Grinstead Drive. He proceeded to hit several vehicles traveling in the right direction before wrecking near Mellwood Avenue.
Collett then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee before being detained by First Division officers.
One person with non-life threatening injuries was taken to UofL by first responders and the remaining drivers were checked for injuries at the scene, Ellis said. Collett was also checked for injuries by first responders before being arrested.
Collett is being held at Metro Corrections and faces several charges including driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, reckless driving and wanton endangerment. He set to appear in court at 9 a.m. on May 22.
Ellis said the investigation remains ongoing.
