One person died in Cathedral City early Sunday following a collision with a vehicle driven by a juvenile who was then arrested for DUI, according to Cathedral City Police.
The crash was reported at about 1:15 a.m. near the intersection of Ramon Road and San Eljay Avenue. San Eljay Avenue is about 1,500 feet east of the intersection of Ramon Road and Date Palm Drive.
Police arrived to find a Nissan sedan with major collision damage on its passenger side and a Chevy pick-up whose front was heavily damaged. The driver of the Nissan, who has yet to be publicly identified by the coroner, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined that the driver of the Chevy, who was not identified because he is a juvenile, was intoxicated and that being under the influence appeared to be a factor in the collision. The juvenile was arrested for DUI. A stretch of Ramon Road surrounding the crash site was closed for about five hours but has since reopened.
