SAULT STE. MARIE — A man wanted on several criminal sexual conduct charges was arrested as his ship passed through the Soo Locks on Wednesday, June 4.
According to the Michigan State Police, the 34-year-old Alpena man was working aboard the freighter Kaye E. Barker and was arrested on Wednesday as the ship was docked in the Soo Locks.
The man was wanted on an eight-count felony warrant for criminal sexual conduct stemming from an investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police Alpena Post. The investigation, which was initiated in 2024, resulted in charges filed by the Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Sault Ste. Marie Post and the Seventh District Fugitive Team coordinated with the captain of the Kaye E. Barker and staff from the Soo Locks to board the ship as it was tied up and arrest the man.
Officials said the arrest was unrelated to the temporary closure of the Soo Locks on June 4.
