Oregon State Police said a suspect was in custody May 2 after they allegedly pointed a gun at people at the Santiam Rest Area on Interstate 5.
Southbound Interstate 5 was briefly closed in the area near the rest area about 10 miles south of Salem, but it had reopened as of 4:50 p.m., according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.
Police closed the rest area while the person was apprehended.
Police said when troopers arrived at the rest area, the person entered a vehicle. Police say the person was non-compliant as of 4:45 p.m. and were working to get the person to surrender.
Traffic was backed up to the Interstate 5 junction with Highway 22.
Traffic was backed up for 10 miles on I-5 near Salem on May 2 due to police activity.
Northbound traffic also was heavily congested into Millersburg.
Southbound traffic was detoured at milepost 244 onto surface roads into Jefferson.
