The Appleton area could see severe weather April 28, according to the National Weather Service Green Bay.
The forecast includes a strong chance of thunderstorms during the day, with wind gusts as high as 33 miles per hour. In the evening, the chance of precipitation increases to 50%.
There’s also a 40 to 60% chance of hail, up to an inch in diameter, before 2 p.m., and between 2 and 7 p.m., there’s a 20 to 30% chance the storms could redevelop, with a chance of tornadic conditions.
“We’ll be looking at potential for several rounds of thunderstorms through the day and into this evening. The storms this morning would primarily pose a risk for smaller hail, lightning, heavier downpours as we get later into this afternoon,” Jeff Makowski, meteorologist for the National Weather Service Green Bay, told The Post-Crescent.
The highest chance of impact is expected between 8 p.m. April 28 and 1 a.m. April 29, as storms from the west move in. The main hazards will be flooding, damaging winds and tornadoes.
Makowski says the heavier thunderstorms could quickly surpass one to two inches in total rainfall.
Areas west of Appleton appear to have a moderate risk of severe weather, according to the weather service.
