A World War II era train-car-turned-diner has been listed as Oklahoma’s most beautiful restaurant.
With its dark wood and tiled ceiling, Love Food said the Southern Belle in Heavener, Oklahoma oozes “1940s elegance.” The restaurant was once an active railcar on the Kansas City Southern Line, known as the “sweetheart of American trains.”

What: The railcar that is now the Southern Belle was originally built in 1905. Painted bright red, gold and black on the outside, the restaurant serves homecooked meals like fried chicken, hamburgers, salads and baked potatoes.

Hours: Open Thursday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
What to know about the Southern Belle train
Starting in 1940, the Southern Belle passenger train ran a regular schedule between Kansas City and New Orleans, traveling 868 miles in 21.5 hours.
The luxurious train was retired in November of 1969, saddening many, according to the restaurant’s menu.
But local train buffs refurbished the car that is now the Southern Belle Restaurant, and Heavener, Oklahoma, remains the 100-mile “division point” of the Kansas City Southern Railway today.
