Moreno and Husted can’t let this catastrophe happen
To Sen. Jon Husted and Sen. Bernie Moreno:
“Of all the wars in my time this … appears to me to be the wickedest, having no cause but malice against liberty.”
When Benjamin Franklin wrote those words, he was referring to the British, but they apply equally well to the Trump administration, which is choosing to regard ordinary Americans as the enemy. And they have no cause to do it but malice against liberty.
As I type these words, President Donald Trump and his lackeys are speaking with accelerating belligerence toward the protesters in Los Angeles. I am now hearing words like “Insurrection Act.” They use such words with unsuppressed, evil-laced glee.
They are now using the Marines against protesters. The use of such a lethal force against American citizens would be both illegal and beyond insane. Yet the Trump administration has sent them to join the National Guard.
These events did not need to happen, senators.
And so, I ask you: Where are you? It is past time for you to stand up against a rogue president who is an enemy of democracy and the Constitution. Now is the time to act to prevent catastrophe, so that we do not spend decades paying its price.
A woman waves a U.S. flag while California National Guard personnel stand outside the Federal Building during protests in response to federal immigration operations in Los Angeles on June 10, 2025. Los Angeles police began arresting people in the city’s downtown late on June 10, as groups gathered in violation of an overnight curfew after a fifth day of protests against Donald Trump’s immigration crackdown.
For they have no cause to behave this way — except for wickedness, inflamed by their malice against liberty. Whether we wish it or not, it is the task of our time to be liberty’s defenders.
For the sake of our children and grandchildren, we must not fail.

America’s health is in danger
It was astounding to hear that an American Secretary of Health and Human Services dismissed our country’s vaccine safety monitors. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has built a lucrative career opposing vaccination. Now, his bias is jeopardizing the health of every American.
For decades, the independent Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices provided recommendations to the CDC. Kennedy shuttered it. All 17 members — experts from top universities and hospitals — were accused of conflicts of interest. Kennedy lied when he promised the Senate he wouldn’t interfere with their work.
Even more troubling, he said he wants President Donald Trump to appoint the committee. This group was nonpartisan, consisting of hardworking Americans dedicated to your well-being. Let me ask: when your health is in danger, who do you want in charge? Scientists and physicians? Or political appointees?
Ohioans should be especially alarmed. Vaccination rates are plummeting statewide. Despite world-class children’s hospitals, Ohio is missing the coverage needed protect our most vulnerable.
As a pediatrician already 10 years into my career, I will have to fight diseases last battled by my father’s pediatrician. It doesn’t have to be this way. Every major public health authority on the planet considers vaccines safe and effective. Vaccines work.
