Seventeen of the MV Hondius passengers are from the United States, and six other Americans disembarked in St. Helena on April 24.
President Donald Trump said Thursday night he has been briefed on the hantavirus, and he said that “it’s very much—we hope—under control,” adding that “a lot of great people” are studying it and that the situation “should be fine, we hope.”
Other passengers aboard the MV Hondius hail from Australia, Belgium, France, Greece, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Japan, Montenegro, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, and Ukraine. All of them are asymptomatic to date, and the Spanish health ministry said that when the ship docks in the Canary Islands, the non-Spanish citizens will be repatriated to their countries.
